The Jazan series

Main series

The Xair Space Academy

In a galaxy on the brink, survival is the ultimate lesson.

The Xair Space Academy trains the galaxy’s most elite cadets, but for Lupita, a battle-hardened Jazan warrior, excelling isn’t enough. Her combat skills are unmatched, yet academic life tests her in ways she’s never faced—and exposes vulnerabilities shedidn’t know she had.

When she crosses paths with Alex, a brilliant hacker hiding from enemies he may never escape, an unlikely alliance forms. Together with a small, secretive team of cadets, they navigate a web of rivalries, hidden agendas, and dangerous secrets within the academy’s walls.

As an ancient threat looms over the Confederation, Lupita and Alex must trust each other—and their newfound family—if they hope to survive. In a world where loyalty can be deadly, will they be ready for what’s coming?

The Jazan Conspiracy

After a devastating attack on the Xair Space Academy, the surviving cadets flee aboard the Renaissance, a training ship now carrying more secrets than students. Lupita, a battle-hardened Jazan warrior, saves the ship through sheer nerve and skill—only to be demoted, humiliated, and ordered to stand aside.

But when sabotage strikes the Renaissance, Lupita realizes the attack on the academy was only the beginning. Enemies stalk the ship, forbidden technology draws dangerous attention, and Alex—the brilliant hacker who may be humanity’s best chance against an alien invasion—hesitates to lead.

As suspicion, betrayal, and danger close in, Lupita must decide how far she is willing to go to protect her friends…and whether stopping the conspiracy will require a mission no one expects her to survive.

Companion Series

The Tiger Squad

Blades against plasma. Orphans against an empire.

The Tiger Squad is the Confederation’s most elite fighting force: trained for impossible missions, bound by honor, and accustomed to surviving where others fall. But when a ruthless alien threat begins—and signs of betrayal surface within Space Command itself—the squad is thrust into a war far more dangerous than any battle they have faced before.

For Sabrina, the team’s fiercest fighter, danger is never a reason to hesitate. Determined to live up to the legacy of her mentor, she pushes harder, strikes faster, and risks more than Sven, the squad’s battle-worn leader, can easily control.

But when a mission goes wrong and Sabrina is taken by the enemy, the Tiger Squad
must race into hostile territory to bring her home. Outnumbered, outgunned, and facing
a conspiracy that could doom the Confederation, they will have to fight with everything
they have—and trust that honor can still survive in the dark.

THE JAZAN RESISTANCE

Outnumbered. Outgunned. But never out of honor.

The alien infestation is spreading faster than the Jazan Resistance can contain it. New creatures emerge without warning, each more dangerous than the last, and every battle reveals a harsher truth: the enemy is not merely invading their world. It is changing it.

Queen Sabrina and the Tiger Squad are fighting to hold together a fragile resistance built from warriors, defectors, elders, and unlikely allies. But unity is difficult when supplies are vanishing, casualties are mounting, and the planet itself seems to be turning against them.

Jazans are trained to fight to the death—but there are enemies no blade can stop and disasters no courage can outlast. Forced into flight after a devastating blow, the survivors must find help before the resistance collapses completely. Because sometimes the first duty of a warrior is simply to remain alive.

Prequels

THE ZENEI AT WAR

The Zenei was built for discovery, not war. Crewed by five thousand android scientists, the deep-space vessel carries the hope and legacy of the Butsuree civilization—a dying people searching the stars for knowledge, survival, and a future beyond their fading world.

Then the Zenei discovers an alien armada on a course toward Butsuree space: tens of thousands of living ships, vast enough to crush entire worlds and strange enough to defy everything the crew understands about life. Outmatched and far from home, Captain Albert must decide whether to fight, flee, or search deeper into enemy territory for answers that may already be too late.

But as fear, grief, and doubt begin to fracture his command, Albert faces another danger: the emotions his kind were never meant to carry. To save their creators, the crew of the Zenei may first have to become more human than they ever believed possible.

THE JAZAN REAWAKENING

She lost her mother to the void. Now she must mother an army to survive it.

The Jazans are the Confederation’s most feared fighters: secretive, brutal, and bound by a code that prizes honor above life itself. Fifteen-year-old Lupita has spent nearly every waking hour training to join their ranks, guided by her relentless mother, Lara, and the belief that their people serve something greater than power.

But under Rafael’s command, the Jazan community is changing. The powerful Jezzim Order has begun tightening its grip, and those who resist its influence are becoming targets. As trainees die under suspicious circumstances and old loyalties fracture, Lupita and Lara realize survival may require the one thing no true Jazan takes lightly: exile.

Determined to preserve the heart of their ancient ways, mother and daughter flee Confederate space and rescue a group of war orphans from slavers. But when their fragile new clan is attacked, Lupita must discover whether honor can endure beyond tradition—and whether children shaped by loss can rise as warriors.

A MONK’S QUEST

Some debts cannot be repaid. They can only be carried forward.

Before a Tahur monk can be ordained, he must leave the cloister and discover the purpose his life is meant to serve. Filip’s quest begins in fire and blood when his monastery is destroyed and a Nawaree girl sacrifices herself to save him. Bound by grief and a debt of honor, he follows her pendant to the hidden tribe she called home.

The Nawarees are more than traveling performers and beggars. For generations, they have moved quietly through the Confederation, protecting the innocent from an alien virus that turns humans into killers. But now the pathogen is changing, spreading faster, striking harder, and threatening even those sworn to contain it.

As the Nawarees’ secret war erupts around him, Filip must decide what honor truly demands: staying with the people who saved him, or leaving them behind to protect the one person who may still be able to save everyone.

The Skyracer Mechanic

Built for speed. Trained for vengeance. Destined for the stars.

Zaydan was thirteen when marauders murdered his parents and left him broken on a mountain road. Taken in by Blitz, a mysterious skyracer inventor with secrets of his own, Zaydan spends the next decade learning the craft by day and preparing for vengeance by night. He becomes a brilliant mechanic, a disciplined marksman, and the designer of a skyracer fast enough to outrun almost anything.

But the world beyond the workshop is coming apart. Criminal gangs tighten their grip, the powerful Jezzim Order moves in the shadows, and rumors of a coming alien war push the Confederation toward collapse.

When Zaydan is called to the Space Academy, he must choose what kind of man he intends to become: one shaped by the killers who took his family, or one willing to fight for a future larger than revenge.

They do not plan on bringing Grenouille, a tiny frog with a very big personality—but she has other ideas.

Together, the friends brave dark jungle paths, a dangerous ravine, and plenty of surprises before discovering the truth: a visitor from outer space has landed in their forest. And if Olivier and his friends want to help her get home, their adventure is only just beginning.

Alain Brousseau

Inspiring Novelist and Award-Winning Author
Alain Brousseau

Alain Brousseau is the author of the Jazan sci-fi series, with eight novels currently under contract with Atmosphere Press and one children’s book, The Marvelous Little Frog, also under contract with the same publisher.

The adventure began in July 2002, just as I was about to move to Washington, DC, to work for an international organization. Progress was initially slow because my work visa didn’t allow me to earn any income beyond my employer's salary. In practice, that meant I couldn’t publish anything until I retired a quarter of a century later, which removed the urgency to complete the project. Nevertheless, for many years, I worked as an economist during the day and wrote fiction as a hobby at night and on weekends.

In 2008-2009, I took an 18-month unpaid leave, which allowed me to make significant progress on my first novel. During that time, I joined a fabulous writer group in Port Moody, BC. At my first meeting, I introduced myself and proudly told the group that I had already written more than 500 pages and planned to stop at about 1,000 pages. Consternation spread across the room, and my fellow writers dutifully informed me that, as a first-time author, I would never be published unless I shortened my novel to about 80,000 words.

Some writers even advised me to start over. To be honest, that advice left me deflated for quite a while. After several months of procrastinating, I grudgingly restructured the novel, moving some chapters into prequels and shifting others into future novels in the series. By the time I returned to work in 2009, I had completed the first draft of my first novel, The Xair Space Academy. Unfortunately, the accomplishment meant little because my work visa still prevented me from publishing it. I continued working on the series over the years, and by the time I retired in June 2026, I had completed eight novels.

The children’s book (The Marvelous Little Frog) began as a Christmas gift for my son in 2020. I bought a 26-page artist’s book (14” x 11”) on high-quality paper and began writing a story about a young boy living in a magical forest populated by talking animals. I illustrated the book copiously, with drawings filling entire pages and overlapping the handwritten text. One day, I mentioned the book to Atmosphere Press, and they suggested I send them a copy for evaluation. They agreed to publish it, and it will go on sale in October 2026.

After working on the Jazan series for a quarter of a century, my dream is finally coming true, and I am looking forward to sharing the adventure with my readers.
